My Mom put a box in the mail around about Christmas time
And on Christmas day I ripped the packing tape to see what I’d find
My mom is a frugal type but their was over 50 pairs of socks
Dress blacks, straight whites those cartoon types sitting right there in the box
I took a pair out from REI and I laced up my boots
I was sitting under my kitchen light
When I realized who they belonged to
I guess you can’t take it with you when you go
All you can leave this world with is your soul
So if you are leaving this blue and green dot
Well I might be the one wearing your socks
Thrift shops and secondhand stores how many coats do I own
from people who aren’t people anymore
I guess I can speak to the truth I walked more than a mile in someone else's shoes
When someone dies we bow our heads
say our salutations
But I what never realized
Is all our stuff goes on a world wide vacation
I guess you can’t take it with you when you go
All you can leave this world with is your soul
Where you are going to no body knows
Well I might be the one wearing your clothes
