Tai was driving home when she saw a billboard that read “trying times don’t mean that you stop trying”. Tai wove this line into an anthem for those struggling. As a young mother herself, Tai raised her infant daughter who was just 4 months old when the pandemic started by transitioning to a stay at home mom. With the loss of touring, a steady income and no local family, Tai and her husband and duo partner Austin had to get by with donations, food banks and PPP loans. During those 2 years she built up her online work, by creating a studio where she taught Songwriting, Voice, Guitar and Ukulele at Taishanmusicschool.com Teaching students across the Country as well as Canada and has had her students go on to win scholarships to USC, Berklee School of Music and Oblerlin Conservatory.

“I realize now the importance and beauty of being there for one another through these trying times”. Tai comments. Through the recording process, Tai worked with her longtime producer and collaborator Mark Blasco out of Seattle . Sending tracks back and forth in the wee hours of the night after her daughter was asleep.

Catchy with driving acoustic-guitar, “Trying Times” is sequel to last year's release “Change the World Together” which celebrated the date where all adults could be vaccinated. The two releases tap into Shan’s’ unique talent as a writer to hone in on specific, unique images and subject matter while still capturing emotions on a deeper level.
